1. Bent [Blu-ray] (2018)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A fairly perfunctory crime thriller, Bent doesn’t flop, but it fails to become anything memorable. While professional and watchable, it seems lackluster for the most part. Starring Karl Urban, Sofia Vergara. Lionsgate, $21.99, 5/15/2018.

2. Dredd [Blu-Ray] (2012)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While a clear improvement when compared to the awful 1995 film, 2012’s Dredd can’t be called a great – or even very good – movie. Nonetheless, it keeps us reasonably engaged, as some bloody action and a solid cast manage to make it better than it should be. The Blu-ray boasts strong picture and audio along with a decent set of supplements. Although I can

3. Doom: Unrated Extended Edition (2005)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although it didn’t break the videogame movie curse, Doom isn’t the disaster I thought it’d be. While wholly derivative of Aliens and never anything memorable, it provides a lively and fun action-adventure that achieves most of its modest goals. Starring The Rock, Karl Urban. Warner, $29.98, 2/7/2006.

4. Priest [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With Priest, we get a movie that packs in scores of influences but fails to muster its own identity. The film starts reasonably well but becomes buried underneath its own infatuation with allusions to other – and better – flicks. The Blu-ray comes with good picture and supplements as well as awesome audio. I feel pleased with this release but can’t say t

5. Hangman [Blu-ray] (2017)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: From its opening scene until the end credits roll, Hangman offers a truly terrible piece of work. Even with some good actors, the movie fails to find a groove, so it becomes a ridiculous, clumsy tale with no tension or drama. Starring Al Pacino, Karl Urban. Lionsgate, $21.99, 2/27/2018.

6. Star Trek: Beyond [Blu-Ray 3D] (2016)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As much as I enjoy the Star Trek franchise, I can’t find a ton about Beyond to make it special. While the movie comes with some good action scenes, it lacks a strong story and it fails to move its characters along in a satisfying manner. Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto. Paramount, $48.99, 11/1/2016.

9. The Chronicles Of Riddick [Blu-Ray] (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Many criticize big-budget blockbusters as all style, no substance, and that seems to be the case with The Chronicles of Riddick. The filmmakers executed a lavish and detailed sci-fi universe but didn’t bother to come up with an involving story or much dynamic action. Starring Vin Diesel, Judi Dench. Universal, $14.98, 3/31/2009.

10. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Extended Edition) [Blu-Ray] (2002)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Two Towers doesn’t feel as engrossing as its predecessor, but that’s almost inevitable given its spot as the middle chapter of a trilogy. It’s still an excellent movie that continues the tale well. The Blu-ray adds 44 minutes of mostly useful and entertaining material that serves to make the film even stronger than its Oscar-nominated theatrical cut.
